Week 3

Classwork: Yay! Finally shading! It took me forever to get the proportions right but overall I enjoy the "end" result. I really like my flamingo/swan thingy.

Homework: I hate drawing stairs. Straight lines hate me and the perspective doesn't help. I do like my composition and the overall product, but now that I see a picture of it, I see some things I need to go back and fix or rather want to fix.
This has to be my favorite high contrast work that I found. The bright, white light reflecting off the surface of the watch against the dark, delicate detail of the cover are really visually attractive to me.

I like the balance contrast of this piece. It also appears that both the white and the black were applied at the same time.
This piece does have mid tones but still has great contrast.

The high contrast of the white forms and the black lines and dots create a great visual pattern.

I just think this is a beautiful picture with great contrast.

Week 2

Classwork: I love charcoal and I really enjoyed this work. I actually like the detail of the second one better, but the negative and positive shape interaction of the first one is really interesting to me. The erasing, however, drives me insane. I don't mind erasing areas for shading but erasing all the negative or all the positive areas to that pure white aggrivates me. I want to start shading...

Homework: My opinion of this technique from class remains. Charcoal, yes...covering a sheet with it and erasing half of most of it, no. I think I could have found a different composition for this one but I do enjoy it.
